there is a second eeprom on that motherboard 16mb
I think 16mb eeprom MPM is activated. That's why when the serial is changed with the hex editor, the old one is restored.

Actually, this method came to my mind yesterday. I thought you tried this method
I have never come across DMI tool program in new generations for elitebook.
